Numbers tell a story. But only if you can read them. Startup Books delivers outsourced financial reporting – clean, easy-to-understand monthly financial reports – so you always know exactly where your business stands, and where it’s headed. Our management reporting services are built specifically for financial reporting for small business owners who don’t have an in-house finance team.
Startup Books USA provides monthly financial and management reporting for US startups and small businesses, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, Cash Flow statements, accounts receivable and payable aging reports, budget-vs-actual comparisons, and optional KPI dashboards. Reports are delivered monthly, formatted for investors, banks, and co-founders, and included as part of every ongoing bookkeeping plan.
Five situations we see most often - and what actually needs to happen for each one.
Your revenue, expenses, and net profit for the month and year-to-date, in one clean statement - the first thing any investor, lender, or co-founder asks to see.
A snapshot of what your business owns, owes, and is worth at a point in time - assets, liabilities, and equity, reconciled every month.
Shows where your money actually came from and went, separate from what your bank balance alone can tell you — critical for tracking burn and runway.
See exactly which invoices are overdue and which bills are coming due, so nothing gets missed or paid late.
Your planned numbers next to what actually happened, side by side — the fastest way to catch a spending problem before it becomes a real one.
A performance dashboard built around the metrics that matter for your business — MRR, burn rate, runway, or CAC — not a generic template.
Investors want to see your numbers. Banks want to see your numbers. Your co-founder wants to see your numbers. Producing them in-house means pulling your bookkeeper off monthly work to build reports, or hiring a controller for a part-time job. Outsourced financial reporting solves this: accurate, up-to-date financials ready to share, formatted professionally and backed by clean data – without adding headcount.
Reports arrive as part of your monthly bookkeeping plan - no separate process to manage.
Reports are only as good as the bookkeeping behind them, so reconciliation happens before reporting each month.
Your P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow statement, and aging reports are checked for accuracy — not just auto-exported.
Delivered by email with a plain-English summary of what changed.
If you're on a plan with a KPI dashboard, it updates continuously rather than waiting for month-end.
Core reporting – P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow statement – is included in every monthly bookkeeping plan starting at $149/mo. Aging reports and budget-vs-actual comparisons are included from Growth up. KPI dashboards and investor-readiness reviews are part of Scale.
Quick answers about the reports and how they work.
An accounts receivable aging report shows every outstanding customer invoice, grouped by how long it’s been unpaid – typically current, 30, 60, and 90+ days overdue. It’s the tool that tells you exactly who owes you money and how urgently to follow up. We include this report as part of Growth and Scale plans.
An accounts payable aging report shows every bill your business owes, grouped by how soon each one is due. It prevents late payment penalties and damaged vendor relationships by giving you a clear view of what’s coming due.
An accounts receivable aging report tracks money owed to you by customers; an accounts payable aging report tracks money you owe to vendors and suppliers, sorted the same way by how overdue each bill is. We include both in every reporting package above Starter.
A cash flow statement shows the actual movement of cash in and out of your business, separate from the profit shown on your income statement. A business can be profitable on paper and still run out of cash if customers pay slowly – the cash flow statement is what catches that early.
A KPI dashboard is a live view of the specific metrics that matter most for your business – MRR, burn rate, runway, or CAC — pulled together in one place. It’s built around your business, not a generic template, and is included on Scale plans.
Bookkeeping reports record what happened – transactions categorized and reconciled into raw financial data. Management reports interpret that data into something decision-useful: trends, comparisons, and dashboards. You need accurate bookkeeping before management reporting is possible at all, which is why we handle both together.
Every plan includes monthly reports, delivered by the 15th of each month along with a plain-English summary of what changed. Clients with a KPI dashboard get a continuously updated live view in addition.
Financial statement preparation is the process of turning your reconciled bookkeeping data into formal financial statements – P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow – ready to share with investors, lenders, or your accountant. We prepare these every month, not just at year-end.
A budget vs actual report compares what you planned to spend or earn against what actually happened, line by line, so you can see exactly where the business is ahead of or behind plan.
Not necessarily at the earliest stage – a dashboard earns its place once you have enough recurring metrics to track trends over time. Most pre-revenue startups do fine with the three core statements alone; we’ll tell you honestly if a dashboard would help or just add noise.
